Routines and Guilt

In 5 weeks and 3 days, not much has changed around here.
Other than Haylee's first Halloween!!

We are still having mostly-sleepless nights. Occasionally Haylee will sleep for 4 hour stretches, which is very nice! But once she is awake, she will not go back to sleep...little stinker! She likes to wake up around 12am or so, drink a bottle and just look around. She finally falls back asleep around 3 or 4-ish. It's been rough, to say the least. But it all comes with the territory! Plus, I have finally started to settle into a routine with the Girls!

On the weekdays, I wake Em up at 7am to get ready for school. I get her fed, dressed, ready to go and feed myself. All while Haylee is {usually} still asleep. Then around 8:30am I drive her up to the bus stop, and she's off! Then I head back home, make myself a cup of STRONG coffee, do whatever I need to do around the house, take an hour to watch some t.v. alone, in the quiet! That's usually when Haylee wakes up, right on que!
I have to change her, feed her, burp her, etc...Then it's just about time to pick Em up from the bus stop, right around 12:20pm. Once we get back, it's time to make lunch.
Each day I have to go through Em's backpack to see what she has done for the day. I try to read a little with her, but that unfortunately does not happen every day.
We try to find something to do during the afternoon, for Emma's sanity! Then, it's about time to start thinking about dinner and the nighttime routine. Which I will not bore you with.

So yeah. I'm getting there...Slowly!

And as some of you may already know, I had difficulties breast feeding Emma, and it hasn't been much easier this time around. I breast feed Haylee for about a week or so, then decided to exclusively pump (due to the pain and difficulty of it). And with exclusively pumping, comes a lot of stress and a lot of commitment. Let's just say that I have my alarm set on my phone for every 3 hours. Yes, you have to pump that often, for 15-20 minutes at a time. It takes up a lot of time. But for me, it far outweighs the pains and stresses of exclusively breast feeding.

We were hoping that this time around I would be able to feed her breast milk for a long time, so that we could save money on formula. But sadly, that is turning out to not be the case. My production has been dwindling, and I have tried everything they say to try - Fenugreek, pumping on a schedule, etc...it just seems to be my bodies thing. Not producing enough.
So needless to say, I have been supplementing with formula. Luckily, I received three different cans as samples, so I have been using those up.

And about the money we thought we might save? It turns out in the long run we really won't be. :( I have been renting a pump from the hospital, so the money we would be spending on that, will end up being the money we {inevitably} spend on formula.
We were both really hoping that this time around things would be different on this subject. I went through the exact same thing with Emma. The only difference, is that this time I did produce a little bit more. But not by a whole lot.

Yes, this is frustrating. And stressful. And I am guilt ridden.
Not being able to provide naturally for your child, as it is intended, is a really tough thing to have to swallow {hence the guilt}. But it is, what it is. As unfortunate as that may be.

{This whole subject is so touchy, and tons of women are "judgy" on it.
So I ask nicely, that if you are one of them, please do not say a word. I do not need your negativity on top of my guilt and stress. Thank you!}

Life Lately!

As you can imagine, I have been pretty preoccupied lately.
What with the newest addition to our family, Haylee Elizabeth!
After a successful induction, and two epidurals later, she has finally arrived!
Born on September 25th, at 2:20am. Weighing in at 6lbs, 9 oz, 19 inches long.

Just Born!

This whole Newborn thing has thrown me for a loop! I am embarrassed to say that I forgot more about it than I care to admit! Who would have thought that 5.5 years later, I would be trying to figure it out all over again?! Well, me, I guess!

The sleepless nights, the feedings, the struggles with breastfeeding/pumping, the fact that she is just so teeny-tiny {she technically should not be arriving for another 6-7 days!}, plus Emma's schedule, and the diaper-to-poo ratio, all makes for completely exhausted Parents.

On the way home from the hospital...
But other than all that, I do have to say that we would not trade it for anything! Cliche, yes, I know, but so true! Little Miss will sleep through ANYTHING! Which is a blessing! I guess she's already used to all our noise! Ha, ha!

Speaking of noise, she is quite possible the noisiest infant EVER! It's pretty funny, actually...all her grunts, groans and squeaks! You can definitely tell when she's starting to wake up. I am planning on whipping out my camera here soon, and take some good quality photos of little Haylee, and her Sis-Sis Emma. So keep an eye out for those...

At one week old
Also, do I even need to mention how much Emma LOVES her little sister?!
She is completely enamored with her! She has labeled herself the "Diaper Helper", and she is honestly the best helper I could ask for! She will get stuff for me, help me out while I'm pumping, check on sister before and after school, and is super concerned about her while in the car. It's pretty cute, really! :)

My Fave: My Loves!
I cannot believe how FAST these past two weeks have flown by! The previous 37 weeks went by so SLOOOOW. So of course this time has to fly by - Murphy's Law.
Damn that Murphy and all his Laws!
She is already two weeks old - TODAY!!

Two weeks old -TODAY!
Needless to say, all these sleepless nights and busy days, equals CAFFEINE for this Mama! You got it right, I am officially back on my bad habit. I'll admit it!

Pumpkin Spice Latte, in a festive Halloween mug! :)

And might I add: Thank You so much to my Mom who watched Em and made sure she got to and from school safely while we were in the hospital, cleaned our whole house, purchased groceries, and has since helped us on her days off!!
What a God Send she has been! XoXo

Complictions...

When I was pregnant with Emma, I had this weird "symptom":: I was extremely itchy from {literally} head to toe. Day and night. Well, it turns out I have the same thing again.

During my last pregnancy I had mentioned it, and they didn't seem concerned. Told me to take Benedryl, and it seemed to take the edge off. Well that is what I have been doing again this time. This time when I mentioned it to my doc, she wanted to take a blood draw, to test my liver functions and bial acids.

Well...yesterday I received a call from the office. The call was not from my doctor, but from one of the associate doctors in the practice {My doc was off for the day}. She told me that while my liver function test came normal, my bial acids were high.

What does this mean you ask? Well, apparently I now have a pregnancy complication called Cholestasis of Pregnancy {Read all about it HERE}. The main symptom of this is the extreme itchiness that I have. The doctor I talked to told me that it is a good thing that I mentioned it at my last appointment.

In short:: "Cholestasis occurs in about 1 out of 1,000 pregnancies. Pregnancy hormones affect gallbladder function, resulting in slowing or stopping the flow of bile. The gallbladder holds bile that is produced in the liver, which is necessary in the breakdown of fats in digestion. When the bile flow is stopped or slowed down, this causes a build up of bile acids in the liver which can spill into the bloodstream."

Basically, my gallbladder is not functioning properly, causing my bial acids to go into my bloodstream, which can in turn make the babies liver go into distress. GREAT.

So with this information, the doctor prescribed a medication to help with my symptoms. However, since our prescription insurance is separate from our medical, we have to pay a high co-pay for this medicine. Apparently it is a fairly new drug, being the only one in it's class. So needless to say, it is expensive to begin with. Long story short, we can't afford it. So I will be continuing with my symptoms. For now.

Oh, but it's not over yet! I now have to go in every one to two weeks, and have non-stress tests, and ultrasounds to make sure that Baby H is not in any distress. And on top of all of that, with Cholestasis, they induce at 37 weeks. As soon as she is considered full term, and her lungs function properly on their own.

Why three weeks early? Because you see, with this complication there is a much higher of pre-term labor, and/or stillbirth. NOT COOL. So I say 37 weeks it is!

The Silver Lining on this cloud, is that we get to meet our new baby girl three weeks earlier than anticipated! Plus, a few weeks ago I found out that my doctor is retiring on October 1st of this year, so hopefully this means that she will get to deliver me this time around, too!

Needless to say, we are trying to stay positive and not freak out too much. After all, I think I freaked out enough yesterday for the both of us! So please wish us luck with this new speed bump in the road...Thank you for reading!

Little Pumpkin

Some of you may have noticed that I have been VERY absent as of late...
I promise, there is a very good reason for this!

I have been busy going to bed early, vomiting, gagging, suffering from severe headaches and forgetfulness, having fun with back pain and cramps, going through caffeine withdrawals, and many other various symptoms which shall remain unmentioned! Not to mention, toting Em all over for school, ballet and activities!

This could all only mean one thing, right?
In case your not too sure, it all equates to PREGNANCY!

Yup, that's right, PREGNANCY! We have held it in for awhile, and just told Emma on Easter! She is ecstatic, and we couldn't be happier! Now to just keep our fingers crossed and hope that the third time is a charm!

If all goes well, and according to plan, baby should be here October 15th, 2012.
My favorite time of year...Yay!

And according to the Chinese Gender chart, this little pumpkin could be a boy!
While I am not sure how accurate those things are, one of each would be awesome!
We have a lot of planning and organizing to do before then, which means a LOT of projects! But it will all be well worth it!

Updates to {no doubt} follow shortly!
