The Sunday Social

Linking up with The Sunday Social, by A Complete Waste of Makeup!
This week's questions:
1. What are your favorite things to do on a lazy day?
Cozying up with a good book, having a Netflix marathon, catching up on DVR recordings, scroll around Pinterest, and lounging in PJ's with no makeup!

2. What is your TV guilty pleasure?
I'm gonna have to say Pretty Little Liars...don't judge!

3. What is your favorite road trip music?
Oh geez! The question for me should be what isn't my favorite!
But if I have to choose, I suppose a few would be: The Eagles, Keith Urban, Ben Lee, Fleetwood Mac, Incubus, a mix of upbeat country tunes, and so much more!
{Thank goodness for iPod shuffles, and Pandora!}

4. What are your favorite magazines or books to read by the pool or laying around?
I like to browse People, US Weekly, Real Simple, and Rolling Stone.
Or whatever the current book may be that I am reading at that time...

5. What is your favorite snack?
Again, so many to choose from! I have always been a sucker for Cheez-Its and white cheddar popcorn! If I have a sweet tooth, usually anything sour or involving caramel will do!

Keep an eye out for next week's questions:
1. Favorite breakfast food
2. Best way to spend a free day
3. Airline ticket to anywhere in the world….where would you go and why?
4. You can only leave the house with one thing…what is it?
5. How do you take your coffee?

Things that I will always love:

Coffee and a good book.

Bright red finger nails.

Fun socks and tattoos.

Simplicity of black and white.

The colors, and beauty, of Nature.

What things will you always love?

Book Review - "The Storyteller"

It's no surprise that I love to read.
Magazines and blogs, but mostly books.
I not only love the escape, but I need it!
Something about being transported into someone else's story, into their world, into their life...is alluring. And before I know it, I am so submerged that I cannot get out until the last page has been read.

There are certain stories, certain books, and certain authors with which I become more enthralled than others. Most recently, would be a novel by my favorite author, Jodi Picoult. The name of the book: The Storyteller.

I did not fully realize what it was about until I was already invested in the story. And by that point, I couldn't turn back! This is a story about morality, forgiveness, justice, religious beliefs and family history. It is about Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. It is about survivors and victims, soldiers and prisoners. It is about a story within the story, that completely parallels to the one being told.

Reading this novel, I learned a lot about that time that I am embarrassed to admit that I did not know. I did not realize how ignorant I was (am) to the subject. To that part of our world's history. I knew that what those poor people went through was horrific, but I honestly did not know to what extent those horrors reached.

This is one of the most emotionally charged, powerful, and exhausting books that I have read in a very long time. In other words, it truly moved me.
And it educated me.
It made me think...about morality and the true meaning of forgiveness.

I highly suggest you read this novel.
Especially if you are looking for something that you can dive into emotionally.

Jodi Picoult truly is an amazing author, and does research behind every topic she writes. That is how you know it's gonna be good! The fact that there is some truth to what she writes. Truth behind the fiction. Or more like: she writes the fiction around the truth...does that make sense?!

Overall, this book will intrigue you.
If not for the story, then for the history.

What books have you read recently that you couldn't put down?!

The Rainy Day Friday

This weather must really be starting to get to me. Which is very strange, because for the most part, it never does. The rain has never really gotten to me, or bothered me. But for some reason, today I feel completely unmotivated, uninspired, and just plain DULL. Mind you, it's not like I exactly have all the time in the world to BE these things, so let's just chalk it up to being "one of those days". You know the kind - where all you want to do is curl up with something warm to drink...the lazy ones.

I know we all have them:: The days where we would much rather sit and listen to the rain outside our window, or cozy up on the couch with a blanket and watch T.V. all day, or depending on your mood at the moment, read a book.

But instead, "duty" calls. And it probably isn't helping my cause, to know that I can be lazy and dull all by myself tonight. With a glass of wine perhaps? I'm thinking so! This just means that I first need to make it through this most tedious of days.

So to make it through this very wet and rainy Friday, I think I may have to increase my daily allowance of caffeine! Which isn't exactly a problem for me!
I hope your Friday is more exciting than mine!
